Trailer Review: Avengers: Infinity War
On Wednesday we were gifted, by Marvel Studios, the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, and it was something very special. In such a short space of time, it has become the most watched trailer ever, and rightfully so. Unlike the Justice League, we have all been on a very long journey with these characters and it is now coming to point where we see what Marvel have been working towards, with this tease only adding to the anticipation and excitement.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I love it when a studio pull things from previous films, such as music scores and quotes, and reuses them in trailers and the film itself, which this is exactly what this trailer does. Not only do we have a new take on the Avengers theme, the trailer starts off with selected Avengers, like Thor and Tony, quoting each section of the motivational speech Nick Fury delivers after Coulson dies in the original Avengers. This is a brilliant speech and brilliantly used in this recent tease.
“There was an idea, Stark knows this, called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to to fight the battles we never could."
The trailer doesn’t show us many long sections of Infinity War, but it certainly shows enough to get everyone pumped. One highlight is seeing Spider-Man in the Iron Spider suit, which Tony tried to give him at the end of Homecoming. We also see Peter’s Spider-Senses “tingling”, which is fresh and something unseen until now. We finally get to see a glimpse of the power Thanos as he floors Iron Man with one punch. Dr. Strange seems to be an integral part of this film, which is exciting, as he is arguably the most powerful hero in the whole team, so seeing how he really compares to the other characters will be interesting. For me personally, the best part of the trailer had to be hearing Black Panther say “Get this man a shield” and then point over to Captain America. Cap is one of my favourite heroes in the Avengers, making his return to the team all that more awesome!
Not only does the trailer have plenty of great, eye-catching clips, it also created some really interesting questions. Why is The Vision human and will he die if the soul stone is removed from his head, as it looks? How will all of the heroes come together, as they seem to be really scattered about at the moment? What is Loki’s part to play in all this? These are questions I cannot wait to find out the answer to.
As the trailer comes to a close, and we hear the score hit its crescendo, the excitement is evident - I’ve seen this trailer multiple times and have more goosebumps with each view! The fun doesn’t end there though - I imagine this bit being a favourite part of the trailer for most people - the reveal of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which many of the average viewers wouldn’t have been expecting, so it only adds to the perfection of this well crafted trailer.
I’d normally try and tell you about the parts I wasn’t too keen on in this trailer, and maybe some worries I have about the film, but to be honest I have none. That trailer was everything I’d hoped it would be and more. I don’t need another trailer now, all I need is the film! Bring on May 4th!
